Great States Update photography Contest

Happy Holidays to all Georgia Clubwomen,
It has been awhile since my last post but things have been busy in Georgia and I first of all want to wish all of you Happy Holidays and hope you make some wonderful new memories this season with family and friends.

Most importantly I am trying to get word out about the Great States Update Photography Contest. It is listed in your yearbook on page 77. However, below is the basic information and I want a Georgia Clubwoman to have our State Photo at GFWC Headquarters. So take pictures, look through your pictures, etc. and submit a photo that you feel represents our great State.

Listed below is some information that I am not sure you as a Georgia Clubwoman are familiar with and I wanted to call this to your attention now in case some of you were interested in this particular contest. If Georgia does not have a winning entry, I do have a couple of ideas to have a photo representing Georgia hanging in the GFWC headquarters. However, it would be much more fun to have a photo taken by YOU as a Georgia Clubwoman. Please read the details below and give me a call if you have any questions.

CONTEST RULES:
• The photo should represent the entire state.
• Winning photo should be framed, matted, and ready to hang.
• Consideration should be given to how well the photo represents the state and to the artistic merits of the photo itself.
• The horizontal phot should be no larger than 20” x 18” (including frame, mat, and glass). No vertical photos.
• Photos should be in color and may originate from ditital format, if desired; photos should not contain a visible date stamp.
• State information should be firmly attached to the back of the photo, including name of state, name of photographer, and description of location.
• Only the state’s name and the photographer’s name should be on the mat. No plaques or poetry on framed photo will be accepted.
• Photographers must be dues-paying members of active GFWC clubs.
• Photos will not be returned.
• The same image may be submitted to multiple contests, but separate prints must be entered into each contest.
• By submitting your photo to GFWC, you are providing GFWC with a royalty-free perpetual license to use, reproduce, post, display, create derivative works, sell, license, or sub-license the work in any media now known or later invented without limitation, for commercial or non-commercail purposes.

DEADLINES:
Members must submit entries to their STATE Photography Contest Chairman. STATE juding will be held at the February 2010 GaFWC State Judging at The Lodge at Tallulah Falls. The STATE Photography Contest Chairman and the GaFWC President will submit the winning entry to GFWC.

YOU could have the WINNING PHOTO, whill will hang proudly at the GFWC Headquarters. Representing the State of Georgia. Winning state photos will als be exhibited at the 2010 GFWC Inernational Convention in Omaha, NE.

Also, mark your calendars for January 26. We will be hosting a Legislative Day at our State Capitol and I hope each of you will make plans to attend. We will be joining forces with the Georgia Commission on Family Violence and participate in some of their activities on Janucary 26 - Stop Violence Against Women Day 2010. I will post more infomration on this later plus have Valories send out more information also.

We have a lot going on and I hope each of you plan to participate. Have a great 2010.

Institute & June Newsletter

Hello Fellow Clubwomen, hopefully you are aware that the June Newsletter is out on the web and has been mailed to the women who asked for a hard copy. I hope you enjoy this issue. It was so great to get all the club articles and pictures. We had a hard time getting it downloaded with all the pictures but I think it was worth it. Don't forget we will be looking for articles for the next issue by September 15th. We will have Institute News and updates for judging.

Also, Club Presidents should be receiving the Call to Institute this week in the mail. I hope to see everyone at this year's Institute. We are going to have some workshops (just not as many as we had in Athens) and clubs will get to go home with copies of reports to use as guidelines for reporting this year. Don't forget the deadline for making reservations at the hotel is July 25th. Institute information should also be up on the website very soon should you need to download the information. The Light of Tallulah Woman's Club will again be collecting school supplies. Information is included in the call.

There were 17 of us from Georgia at the 2009 GFWC International Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. Shelby and I were so proud to represent Georgia and we can't wait to tell you all about it at the August Institute.

I would like to call special attention to the Article in the Newsletter on "For Her Glory." It is a unique and easy way to help raise some funds for this Special Project.

I am really enjoying serving as your President and it is hard to believe that there is less than a year left in this administration. I encourage you all to contact me with any questions or concerns that you have.

Hope you are enjoying the summer and will be ready to get back to work in August.

Federation Love,
Brenda

Congratulations to our 2008 Award Winners

Well, the 2009 Convention is over and my sincere congratulations to all the clubs and clubwomen who were recognized at this Convention. Even if your club did not get their name called out, you are still a winner in your community for all the projects you completed during this past year!

Those that attended the Convention, I hope you had a great time. It seems from the ones I have heard from that everyone enjoyed the free time and had a great chance to fellowship together. I certainly hope so and that new friends were made as well as old friendships renewed. This is a great organization and I certainly am honored to be serving as your State President during this administration. My most congratulations to the First and Tenth Districts for hosting such a great Convention. Convention Chairmen Linda Ford, Armenda Barnes, Diane Loeble, Julie Lumpkin and Julie Walkters you were awesome! I cannot thank you enough for doing such a great job. To District Presidents Gail Voyle and Tina Daniel-Reasey thank you and all your members for all the hard work I know went into hosting this convention.

We were very honored to have Carlene Garner visit with us during the Convention. Carlene is the GFWC International President-Elect and was our guest speaker on Saturday Night. She gave a wonderful speech on "Your Federation Legacy." She is a delightful person and I hope each of you enjoyed meeting her and getting to know a little more about GWC.

We had three (3) new clubs that GFWC/GaFWC charters were given to also on Saturday Night. What a great treat this was. We have a new Juniorette Club, a Junior Club and a General Club - WOW!! Seeds of new members are definitely being planted in the State of Georgia. We also recognized 33 clubs that had an increase in membership - WOW!! I hope everyone keeps up the hard work.

My most heart felt thanks to all the members in Georgia who contributed to "For Her Glory" during this past year. We were able to present Scott Piotroswki with a check on Sunday morning in the amount of $5,000.00!!! Ladies you are simply AWESOME! "For Her Glory" has a new website - forherglory.org. Be sure and visit this site. I cannot also tell you how much I appreciate all the great support you have given to "Digitalizing the Future at TFS" my State Tallulah Falls Project. We still need a lot of money to complete this project so I hope you will continue those TFS projects and we can greatly improve the library at TFS for all of our students.

I will be attending the GFWC International Convention in Cleveland, Ohio on June 11-15th. I certainly hope Shelby and I hear Georgia's name called a lot because the clubs have worked so hard for their communities.

Please mark on your calendar that the 2009 Institute will be August 22 and 23 in Macon, Georgia. We will be meeting at the Ramada Plaza. The Institute Call will be going out the end of June and/or first of July so Club Presidents, Chairmen, etc. please be on the look out for this call. We will be doing workshops this year again but the departmental workshops will be a little different so please make sure you make plans to attend.

Once again welcome to our three new clubs - Juniorette Club of TFS; Lake Lanier Junior Woman's Club and the Peachtree City Civic Network Woman's Club. Congratulations to our 2008 Winners and we look forward to seeing you at Institute.

Happy Spring!! I think after the snow a lot of us had a week or so ago Spring may finally be here. At least I hope so. I am looking forward to our 2009 Convention in Augusta, Georgia April 17 - 19, 2009. Hope all of you have received your Convention Call and will be registering by the deadline of April 1st. Don't forget to also register to participate in the "For Her Glory" walk on Saturday afternoon. I am so excited about this event and hopefully the weather will be beautiful and it will be a great time to enjoy the spring and get a little exercise and all for a great cause.

Club Presidents, you will be receiving a letter from me in the coming week that will update you on a few things, but I thought I would go ahead and put that information out for all club members to have. I feel the better we communicate and let everyone know what is happening in your organization the more you feel a part of it and will work to be a part of this great organization. So here are a few updates that everyone needs to know about:

1. For of all you who may not know it, Patty Hosea had to resign as the GaFWC State Treasurer due to personal reasons. We all regret this and wish Patty well and look forward to her continuation with Georgia Federation in other areas. At the February Executive Committee, Amy Atkinson from the 7th District was elected to replace Patty as GaFWC Treasurer for the rest of this administration. So any questions you have in this area should be directed to Amy. Amy will remain as Helping Hands in the Community Program Chairman. Her contact information is:
Amy Atkinson, GaFWC Treasurer
206 Victory Drive, Calhoun, GA 30701
(H) 706-629-3016 ♦ atkinsonamy@hotmail.com

2. It is also with much regret that Betsy Hosea had to resign as International Affair Department Coordinator. As President I have appointed Diane Norris to replace Betsy as International Affairs Department Coordinator. Please mark this change in your yearbook and other records and remember next year to send your International Affairs Reports to Diane Norris. Her contact information is:
Diane Norris, International Affairs Department Coordinator
6209 Spalding Drive, Norcross, GA 30092
(H) 770-242-1008 ♦ dianenorris@bellsouth.net

3. Jennie June Award Information – Do You Have An Outstanding Club Member? There is nothing greater than to acknowledge the dedication of a special club member who has given hours of volunteer time for her club, community, and the State Federation. Only one nominee from a club is allowed, and this special report is due postmarked on June 15, 2009 and mailed to me, you State President. Rules for this report are on page 217 in your GFWC/Georgia Federation Yearbook. A 500 word narrative on club activities, club leadership, and community activities should be reported. A 5 x 7 photo and newspaper clippings from 2 – 3 articles as well as endorsements will let us help judge this special report. The state winner will be announced at our August Institute. The nominee’s report will then be sent to our Region President where our winner will be honored at our Southern Region meeting in October in Greenville, South Carolina, and then at our International Convention in 2010 in Omaha each Region winner will be announced and honored. Let’s get busy and write those reports as we have so many clubwomen in our state that fit the criteria of this report. Please call Pat Swan or e-mail Pat for answers to your questions. Pat Swan is our State Jennie June Chairman. Her phone number is 770-923-6550 and Pat’s e-mail is sbp6388@aol.com.

4. It has come to my attention that some clubs may be interested in making contributions to The Lodge at Tallulah. This is certainly a wonderful idea and we can use those funds for some special projects at The Lodge and for future projects. If your club is interested in making a donation to The Lodge, please do so by writing your check to “Georgia Federation of Women’s Clubs or GaFWC” and mark on the check or in your letter that the funds are for “The Lodge at Tallulah”. These funds will be put in our special Money Market account to be used strictly for The Lodge. You will receive an acknowledgement of your contribution and it is tax deductible. Should you have any questions on this, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.

Assistance Needed

My fellow Club Women, first I must pass along some very sad news. Frances Barnes, President of the Waycross W.C., passed alway at the end of last week. If any of you would like to send a card to her husband, D. J. Barnes, you may do so. For all of us who knew Frances we will miss her. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and to her fellow club members of the Waycross Woman's Club.

Next, we have been requested by the Centennial Committee of Tallulah Falls School 100th Anniversary to assist them with some Door Prizes. These are needed for a Business After Hours event being hosted at The Lodge on March 19th. If you or your club could provide a nice Door Prize, please let me know immediately. This would need to be something that either a man or woman would like to receive. If you can contribute, please send the door prize to the State Office.

Just remember that Call to State Convention will be coming out the end of February. You can still go ahead and make reservations at the Augusta Marriott. The number to call is 706-722-8900. I truly hope to see everyone there.

Club Presidents, remember your President's Report will need to be mailed to your District President and a copy to me by March 1st. I look forward to receiving them.

I look forward to your assistance with Door Prizes.

Federation Love,
Brenda

Updates

Hello fellow clubwomen. I guess a lot of you are in the middle of club reports and I know all the department chairmen and special project chairmen are looking forward to getting your reports. I just wanted to update you on a few things.

First, don't forget about submitting a Club Scrapbook. If you will check the web site and look under reporting forms you should find a new form to submit your club scrapbook to State Chairman Kathy Hanna. This form was left out of the yearbook and the good news is that the scrapbook does not have to be to the State Chairman until March 1, 2009. So this gives you a chance to do club reports and then get that scrapbook in the mail.

Second, the Call for State Convention 2009 should be in the mail to you the latter part of February. You will have until April 1 to get your registration in and hotel rooms must be reserved by March 26. So please remember to asked Club Presidents to pass along the registration information. I will also try to get this on the website for club members to be able to print out. I am very excited about the Convention. It is going to be a great time to renew friendships and make new ones. So I encourage all club members to please make plans to attend.

Third don't forget to place an order for the "Turn at Tallulah" Cookbook being done by the Junior Converence. You can contact Julie Walters about place your order or an order for your club. Of course, they will have some cookbooks at Convention for sale.

I once again remind each you to please remember you can contact me anytime you have a question or concern. For those of you who may not have heard, Joanne Dixon from the first District had been in the hospital but is now home and we wish her a very speed recover. Also, for those of you who may not have heard, Florene Fowler lost her husband in December. Both of these club members I know would appreciate your cards and thoughts and prayers.

I look forward to seeing all of you soon.

Federation Love,
